ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL. (January 2, 2013) –
The streets along beautiful Cranes Roost Park at Uptown Altamonte will come alive with artisans showcasing their talents, color and music.
130 art & fine crafts and exhibits will be showcased on Saturday & Sunday, February 16-17, 2013 during the 2nd annual Uptown Art Expo along Cranes Roost Boulevard, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The FREE ADMISSION Art & Music festival will feature artist displays of jewelry, glass, fine crafts, mosaics, paintings, photography, pottery and sculpture available for purchase. The juried displays will be judged for cash prizes and ribbons.
Visitors can experience the awe in artwork being created before their eyes in the Chalk Street Painting Section as Cranes Roost Park is turned into a “Canvas” with mesmerizing chalk masterpieces by experienced street painters.
There will be street performers and a Fun Kids Zone with art activities, face painting and bounce house fun.
The Orange County Regional History Center will also have a booth with free hands-on learning experience. There will be International Street cuisine and good old-fashioned festival foods offered for hungry festival attendees. The Expo will also present street dance performances with the A Magi Dance Studio featuring tribal and ritual dancers.
Live music performances all weekend long on the Eddie Rose Amphitheatre will feature music legends
in acoustic concerts - Mary Balin on Saturday at 4pm and Firefall Trio on Sunday at 3pm.
Also performing flamenco acoustic guitarist with Shawn Foster, smooth jazz group The Groov and the hits of the 1960’s with American Pop 60’s.
Singer-songwriter Marty Balin is the founding member of Jefferson Airplane, hit song maker of Jefferson Starship and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame icon. His acoustic storytellers concert will share the stories about his musical life and sing the hits “Miracles”, “Hearts”, “Atlanta Lady”, “Count on Me “, “With Your Love” and so many more.
Marty Balin is also an accomplished artist and will display some of his vibrant acrylic paintings at the art & music festival which feature many of the most influential musicians he has known and performed with during his career.
Firefall Trio consists of band members, Steven Weinmeister – vocal & guitar, Jock Bartley – vocal & guitar and Bill Hopkins – vocal & bass and will perform their classic hits in an acoustic performance.
From 1976 through the 1980’s, Firefall saturated the radio waves with a string of Top 20 hits, selling millions of albums and earning two platinum and three gold records for their efforts with be performing their classic hits “You are the Woman”, “Just Remember I Love You”, “Strange Ways”. Defying industry labels, they creatively melded country, folk, easy listening and rock ‘n’roll to create a sound that was uniquely their own. Firefall is one of the few surviving bands of this genre, remaining true to the found vision throughout the bands’ 30 year history.
The Expo is organized to bring art and music together and enhance the quality of life in Central Florida in ways that only come from art. Organizers expect the Expo to attract thousands of attendees to Cranes Roost Park. Central Florida Art Lovers are invited to enjoy the free festivities along Cranes Roost Park. Guests are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the free concerts on the Eddie Rose Amphitheatre. Free parking is available in the Altamonte Mall parking lot. Please no tents, coolers, bottles or alcoholic beverages can be brought into the Expo site.
