"SLASH" IS A NEW CONJUNCTION YOUNG PEOPLE USE
A professor from the University of Michigan has noticed a new language trend among young people-- using the word "slash" as a conjunction while speaking. Professor Anne Curzan writes in her blog, "Slash is clearly a word to watch...The emergence of a new conjunction/conjunctive adverb...is like a rare-bird singing in the world of linguistics: an innovation in the slang of young people embedding itself as a function word in the language." She says an example of how someone would use it would be: "Has anyone seen my moccasins anywhere? Slash, were they given to someone to wear home?"
